The Trooper Potts VC Trust campaigned for a statue for five years, and raised £150,000.

The campaign for the memorial was supported by Chris Tarrant and along with the Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire and family members were present at the unveiling of the memorial in Forbury Gardens in Reading Town Centre.
